Good Garmin GPS [Posted on 2008-12-27]
I had a Nuvi 660 before and this 765T is a replacement for it. I used it for my first trip to Las Vegas, it is as good as it is promoted. The lifetime free traffic service is a big plus...

Great Buy!!! [Posted on 2008-12-28]
I purchased the Garmin Nuvi 765t from Amazon via ABT Electronics. The product was delivered on time (actually a day early) and in brand new condition as promised. I thoroughly tested the product after hearing that there were many defective products released from the Garmin manufacturer. I was pleased to find out that my gps worked absolutely perfect. No touchscreen issues (except for minor errors when trying to input info too fast), bluetooth connected fine, a2dp support worked well and I could hear the turn by turn directions through my Jabra BT8040. I use to own a Garmin Nuvi 760 (which I purchased through amazon) and I am fully satisfied after upgrading to the 765t. The lane assistance is exactly what the 760 was missing and the 3D views at complicated freeway junctions are a plus. There is also now a separate traffic map that shows you all of the traffic in colored details which is helpful. Overall, the Nuvi 760 was a solid gps (but sadly it was stolen from me) but the Nuvi 765t has added features that surpass the 760.

I've used this unit for a month now and love it. I've had a Garmin Street Pilot 2720 for 4+ years and since I don't have any interest in listening to books and music thru my navigation system, none of the newer models did anything different or better until now.
I purchased the 765T for 3 reasons: lifetime traffic info, lane assist & bluetooth. The traffic feature works as I expected, the only thing it could do better would be to beam me up to my destination. I like the lane assist and with the wider screen than I've had, it is easier to read the info. The bluetooth, ah yes, my phone is not compatable. Have not addressed that yet. I will have to drag my laptop down to the phone store so that they can see the "drop down" list of compatible phones since I haven't been able to print it out.
My complaints (2): there should be a printed manual. The idea that your laptop will be handy when you have a question or problem is ludicrous.
The other is the process for entering the multiple locations that I plan to go to in the next month. Once you pick the state, the city, the street number, and the street, you have to navigate back thru all those "pages" to get back to where you can start to enter another state, city and etc. A "save" option and jump back to the "Where to" screen would have been a nice option.

There are a lot of nice features on this model, and I'm sure I will be using it until the "Beam me up Scottie" model comes out.

Even if I know how to get there I take it with me [Posted on 2009-01-03]
My wife and I bought this as a Christmas gift to each other after getting stuck in traffic coming back home after Thanksgiving. I will start by saying that this is my first gps unit so I was impressed when I turned it on. I always thought you had to have a clear view of the sky for this thing to work, but it worked in my living room with the blinds closed. Also, with the exception of the first power up, it finds the satellites very quickly.

I immediately hooked it to my computer running Windows XP home edition. I downloaded any updates that were available. I also went to the garmin garage and got a few little gadget vehicles for the display and downloaded some cool voices. Then we took it on our trip over Christmas.

Hey, I knew exactly where we were going, but it was a new toy so I was excited to try it out. Right away we headed in a different direction than the gps unit suggested. It automatically recalculated the route to the route that I usually take. I was able to find points of interest very easily while traveling and it gave me the option of setting the POI as my destination or a via point. I set it as the via point and it kept my original destination the same while helping me find the POI. The only thing is, when you do it this way it sets the via point as a u turn so it keeps giving you instructions to turn around when you are at the POI. I made the mistake of removing the unit and turning it off while at the POI, so I had to reprogram for my destination anyway.

The lane assist worked very well. It really only comes up when there are more than one lane for the exit. It worked everytime in St. Louis. We already knew which exit to take, so it wasn't that helpful, but if we were in an unfamiliar city, it would be a big help.

We did receive a phone call using the bluetooth feature. The person on the other end of the line had a little trouble hearing us when we talked. I think I'm going to get the external microphone to help out with this.

The FM transmitter worked great, but if we are already using the stereo then it is useless. When there wasn't a lot of noise in the car, the voice thru the built in speaker was fine, we did have it turned up to 90%.

I liked the custom route feature, but I would have liked to be able to save the custom route into the favorites. To get the custom route you have to go to the custom route menu and select the route that you programmed.

I also liked the 3D building feature. It would be fun to use in New York or other big cities. The Las Vegas 3D building view was impressive, but that region seemed to be a little glitchy with the display. May just need a software fix.

Overall I was very impressed with the unit. I have only used it for a week and haven't even scratched the surface of its capabilities, but I believe it is a good unit for the money spent.
