Review printer [Posted on 2008-04-11] This printer is great. It was a great buy. Same printer selling for over $100.00 on ebay. Works perfect. I have the same model printer at work and was familiar with it. It is reliable and fast. I would reccomend it to anyone with home office.
BEWARE: DOES NOT WORK WITH MAC OS LEOPARD [Posted on 2008-04-27] This printer worked fine until i upgraded to Leopard. HP says that this works with Leopard but they have not put out any updated driver. Now i have a perfectly good printer that is defunct because of a piece of software. Guess I will have to buy a new printer. it WON'T be HP!!!!!
Reliable, crisp, cheap and durable [Posted on 2008-09-23] I bought this printer in the Fall of 2004 for college. I have been using it religiously ever since. I've moved four times and have had the printer in and out of my car many times. Every time I hook it back up, it prints like a dream. I don't know the exact statistics, but it prints plenty fast, has never jammed on me, is always crystal clear and the toner seems to last forever. I've replaced the toner once since I bought the printer and that's only because I started churning out political flyers en masse. I love this thing. I've used it on XP and Vista machines without ever installing the HP application software that comes with it. It's not needed and runs like a dream with just plain old driver files.
If anyone knows of a color laser printer that matches the quality of this one, do let me know.
great printer but it DOES NOT work w/ Vista 64-bit Home Premium [Posted on 2008-11-10] Be careful of the reviews claiming there are workarounds to get this to work w/ Vista. They are not specific enough. There is no Vista driver for this printer. It's a great Laser for other systems, but it's basically garbage if you buy a Vista Home Basic or a Vista Home Premium PC. There are some fixes/drivers that will make the 1012 work in Vista Ultimate, which is perhaps the Vista version other users here who say they've gotten it to work have, but I can not get this to run w/ the 1015 or 1300 drivers and definitely not with the 1012 driver. I managed to get it to print about 20 pgs of MS Word docs using the 1150, but they all came out gray as if the printer was in draft mode. This is a software glitch, not a sudden change in toner status (the test page printed out w/ full tone). But then it stopped working and won't print any other docs. It's very frustrating. I really liked this printer and it was working fine with my old XP PC. Two reasons to think carefully before buying another Microsoft-based PC or anything from HP (which neglected to put out a driver for this). Next time, I'm going Mac. For now, I'm buying a new Brother printer.
never complains, never apologizes [Posted on 2008-12-22] This economical little black-and-white printer may be the most reliable laser printer I've ever owned, and I've known a few. Our family networks to this printer from several computers scattered around the house via a wireless hub. This assures that it will print small, casual print runs as well as business items from my home office downstairs.
Short story: it never fails.
No alignment problems, no eternally processing virtual logjams, no blurring. Just one sharp print run after another. If HP ever alters the recipe, let's hope it's in the direction of some concrete improvement that I cannot at this moment imagine. Because right now, everything works.
