Customer Reviews:

At this price it should come with a better cable [Posted on 2008-11-08]
Others have commented on how short and stiff the cable is that comes with this, so I won't belabor the point much further except to point out something I haven't seen mentioned on here before that's closely related to the stiffness and length of the cable.

First, you have to understand that this has a "front" and "back" side, with the back being where you plug in the cables and the front having a couple of indicator lights on it with the cable coming out the left side (as shown in the photo). No big deal so far, right? Well, here's the problem, at least for the laptop I have: the expansion port on my laptop (a DV9000) is on the LEFT side of the computer, which means that one of three things must be true for me to use this docking station at all:
1) The laptop must be turned "backwards" (facing away from me) - or -
2) The docking station must be turned backwards (with the cables facing me and the indicator lights facing away from me) - or -
3) The short, thick cable must be bent at an unhealthy angle to be able to plug it in at all. At least one reviewer has apparently tried this with less-than-encouraging results.

In other words, having such a short, inflexible cable come out of the left side of the docking station is an extremely inappropriate design for a laptop with the expansion port on its left side.

I'm guessing that other HP laptop models have the expansion port on the right side or someone else would have complained about this before, but HP really should have splurged on a longer cable. Yes, this thing does work correctly once it's plugged in, but at these prices getting it plugged in should be a lot more convenient.

Worthwhile if purchased for $40 or less [Posted on 2008-12-10]
I purchased this item after performing a lot of research. I read the reviews both here and elsewhere, and decided that for $40, this product was worth purchasing.

I noticed many people said that a power supply does not come with the Quickdoc. That's true, but what people failed to mention is that in most cases your HP power supply will NOT fit into the power supply plug in the Quickdoc. I still haven't been able to determine which power supply WILL fit into the connector, but the one included with your laptop will NOT. This is important to note because it means that when you dock your laptop, even if you have an additional power supply, you will need to plug in two separate connections. First, the Quickdoc connection, then you'll have to plug in the power supply. So, it's kind of a pain. I'd rather just set my laptop down and plug in one cord, but now it's two cords you've got to plug in. That reduces the convenience and effectiveness of the Quickdoc!

That aside, everything else seems ok. I read some comments about people saying that plugging in the Quickdoc cable is difficult b/c the cord will not contort itself into certain positions. That's not true. The cord will twist and bend in any way you need to plug into the laptop. The Quickdoc does tend to lift up from the desk when pulling on the cord at certain angles, but overall it's not a problem, so don't worry about it.

For $40 I'm glad I purchased the Quickdoc, but I wish I knew which power supply I needed to buy to plug into it. Some documentation from HP would really be nice.

HP Quickdoc [Posted on 2008-12-12]
The HP Quickdoc is a very nice docking station and helps a lot when using with a laptop. Although, beware, the power plug of a HP Pavilion dv7-1135nr will not work with this docking station. Something they left out of the product description. I had to purchase a new power cord to match the product power receptical. Good product, good price, fast delivery.

Mostly great product [Posted on 2008-12-16]
The dock is a great idea and it does what it what is suppose to; however, in my situation I need a longer cord from the dock to the laptop and I can't seem to find one. The product ends up being less useful to me because of that. At the very least there should be an accessory that can be purchased that will extend the cable's length. If you don't have that problem you will probably like this product a lot.

Nice Product [Posted on 2008-12-30]
Purchased this docking station for an HP dv9817cl laptop. Unit came within 2 days of ordering. I just installed the unit on Christmas day on my wife's laptop. Installation was easy and the unit works very well. My system has the correct connector to attach the unit so I am able to close my laptop and work with an attached keyboard, mouse and display and use the unit as a desktop unit. This was a great value and I would recommend this product to others.
