good with pc but doesnt work very well with Mac OS [Posted on 2008-01-21] Works good with PC not too well with Macs OS. Fortunately I have both.
Don't buy this [Posted on 2008-05-02] This item is very poorly made and prone to fail. It didn't work out of the box, wouldn't eject any disc. Buyer beware. Don not purchase one of these!!!
Works as promised but only if you are lucky... [Posted on 2008-09-03] I bought 3 stakkas on sale at $39 each (refurbished) a few months ago and so far, they have worked without any major issues. A friend of mine bought one at the same time as me and was not as lucky. As others have experienced, he had problems ejecting stored discs which from what I was told, was caused by misalignment of the motor/drive belt during rough shipment. My friend returned his unit (he did not want to go through the hassle of troubleshooting it). As long as your stakka was not shaked around, it should work as promised. It took a while to enter all of my DVDs into the OpdiTracker software but it was worth the effort. All 200+ of my data DVDs/CDs are now accessible within seconds. The database softare is bare bones but it does the trick of locating and ejecting your discs efficiently. I would pass on purchasing if you have to pay full price ($99) which averages $1 per disc for the convenience. I think this is a little too steep for the average Joe who just want to organize his DVD collection. However, business users might find it worth the price. I noticed a few reviewers mentioned that their Stakkas started to fail after one year. I will post an update a year from now to confirm if this is an inherent issue with the Stakkas.
The biggest piece of CRAP! I have ever had. [Posted on 2008-11-01] I would actually give these a negative 5 Stars if I could. I initially thought this was handy. Yet everytime I want to eject a disc it tells me something is blocking the gate, yet nothing is. I have 121 errors on 1, 358 errors on the 2nd, and 478 on the 3rd tird. I have taken them them apart and these things are junk. Cost to produce $[...]. Life of components: Thin flimsy rubber band used to drive the plastic gears should last 6 mos. The motor is about 1". The strongest piece is the springs which keep the gate rollers in place. Its probably too strong which makes the gate too tight and stops the discs from ejecting. No wonder they have a 7 Day Return Policy. The support blows too! Do NOT waste your money.
Sincerely,
Matthew P.
Poor quality [Posted on 2008-12-15] Great when it was working well. Unfotunately it quit working after 6 months. This product created a lot more hassle for me than it ever saved me.
