Extreme Disappointment [Posted on 2009-01-06] I cannot express how DISAPPOINTED I am with this game. I am a HUGE Jillian Fan, and was SOOO excited when I saw she was coming out with a Wii Game. I've had a Wii for about a year, and was so glad that Santa brought me the Wii Fit and Jillian game that I put on my wish list.
I've used the Wii Fit quite a few times since Christmas, and was just waiting to get 'serious' about my workouts before popping in the Jillian game, because I expected it to be a kick-@ss workout. After about 45 mins of frustration earlier today, I turned it off, and am not sure if I will ever put it back on.
The controls do not work. PERIOD. I got smacked with that stupid swinging kick bag a million times even though I was "lunging" to the right and left as instructed. Even the way they are 'supposed' to work is counter-intuitive to the way you do the exercise. For example, normally when I squat, I do not agressively swing my arms towards the front of my feet. Usually you keep your arms steady, or bring them to your sides. I really think that I will hurt myself trying to do the exercises like that! It's ridiculous!
The Wii Fit Balance Board does not complement this game at all, even though they say to use it. I find that as horrid as the game was, it worked comparatively better (ie 1 vs a 0) off of the Balance Board.
I noticed absolutely NO change in the difficulty levels. Light is Medium is Hard.
The voiceover from Jillian compliments you even when your 'avatar' isn't moving properly or doing anything, which, compared to the Wii Fit which tells it like it is, IRRITATES ME... I did not expect this to be like a "workout video" tone, 'you're doing great... keep it up... commit to this... you're almost there' on this weird repetitive loop. NOT MOTIVATING. And not like Jillian... I expected her to shout at me when I wasn't working hard, and begrudgingly acknowledge when I am!
I did work out a sweat, which I guess is something. I tried a few modes, and bounced back and forth. But then, when I checked into my stats, it said I'd worked out for ZERO MINUTES. Wha? Unless you COMPLETE a workout, it doesn't register your time at all! Even though I completed several segments of the overall workout, it shows like I did nothing.
Sigh.
I am sooo disappointed, because I wanted this REALLY REALLY bad, and had planned for it to be a major part of my weekly workouts.
I will stick with the Wii Fit and Wii Sport only for workouts.
DON'T WASTE YOUR $ [Posted on 2009-01-06] This game is horrible and I wish I had read the reviews!!!!! She should pay people to take this game off their hands! HORRIBLE
Exercise can be fun! [Posted on 2009-01-06] Excellent game you would never realize you were exercising until the sweat starts pouring off. I would reccomend this to everyone.
buy My Fitness Coach instead [Posted on 2009-01-06] This game was on my partners Christmas List, she was looking forward to using it like the wii fit and was excited to see another fitness game come out that was compatible with the wii fit board. When she didn't get it, she treated herself to the game and immediately tried it the next morning for her fitness workout.
Within ten minutes I could hear her complaining so I came downstairs to see what was wrong. She stated that the controls were not responding to her movement and in between each training excersise you had to jog - FOREVER!
I gave it a try to see it I could figure out what she was doing wrong.
1. Since you shouldn't actually lift your feet and run in place on the wii fit board, the forever jogging in place starts to hurt your calf muscles (or maybe I am just really out of shape).
2. The tire excersise, you really need to put your weight to one side of the board and it still doesn't always respond.
3. The grenade throw, well it works fine by yourself, but we tried this out playing together and nothing responded.
Honestly, workout games are not my thing, but I actually really like the wii fit and do it regularly and I was also looking forward to this game because I thought maybe I could also get a fun workout. NOT WORTH THE $30!
The outcome - this game sucks. I wouldn't even give it one star but I had to give it something. If you want a good workout game, other than the wii fit game, my partner very highly recommends My Fitness Coach. It doesn't use the wii fit board, but gives you a good consistant workout.
Wish I had read the reviews earlier [Posted on 2009-01-06] Wow, serves me right! I should have read the reviews earlier and saved my money for something that would have actually helped (membership to WW, jump rope, etc...). I am not very experienced with using the Wii so though my difficulties in getting my self setup were do to inexperience, however my daughter was just a frustrated. You pretty much just guess your way through it. Then the actual workout, what a joke! I read and reread the directions for each excercise and still could not get many of the excercises to even show that I was doing anything. If they Wii fit game can do it why can't this one. I was so excited about this game coming out since I desperately need to do something to lose weight and I absolutely love Biggest loser. I am really upset Julian Michaels would even allow her name to be on such an awful game. Don't spend your money on this one!
