I wish I'd read the reviews more carefully before I bought this. As someone else pointed out, the battery does an OK job of recharging an iPod Touch, BUT while it's attached you can't listen to music because it blocks the audio port. There has to be a better solution.
Fabulous External Battery for iPhone 3G [Posted on 2008-12-16]
I adore this battery! It is small enough to slide into the pocket of my small purse to go with me everywhere. It easily fits on my iPhone 3G while the phone is inside its Crystal Jacket. I also like the way it charges up the iPhone instead of simply providing power so that you can use your iPhone while the battery is charging it, pop the battery off to recharge it, and use your now fully charged iPhone while the battery is being charged. You never have to wait. If my Kensington Mini Battery ever dies, I would definitely buy another.

Provides a simple and wonderful extension of your battery when you need it most. It charges the IPOD instead of only acting as a battery and does so quickly.
Knocks (hard to do on something that I think is wonderful). You cannot use the headphone port when the unit is attached. Would be terrific if either it were shaped differently to allow access or had a pass through port that allowed use of the headphone jack.
Have had this item for only a few weeks and it is used almost daily. Kids love using the Ipod Touch and quickly deplete the battery but this keeps them happy for many more hours of fun. Am giving kids an Ipod Touch for Christmas and will certainly be picking up a couple of these as well. You can't go wrong with this item.
Great product - Works with iPhone 2.1 and 2.2 [Posted on 2008-12-26]
I am writing this review in response to one of the 1-star reviews that claims this product does not work with the iPhone 2.1 or 2.2 software updates. I purchased the product for my brother as a Christmas gift, and was a little worried that it would not work. My brother and I have been playing around with the battery all day today on our v2.2 iPhone 3Gs... and I can verify that it works PERFECTLY!
We have not had any problems working with the battery, and it's nice that you can charge your iPhone even with the battery connected. Great product with a great price from Amazon!

I too should have read the other reviews more closely before buying this product. The one I received last week DOES work with firmware version 2.2. However, one cannot use earphones when it is plugged in. It would be good for an iPhone as an emergency recharger as one could continue to use the phone while it is recharging. I had planned to use this battery when I could not plug in my iPod Touch for an extended period of time. If I cannot listen while it is recharging it defeats the purpose for me, because by the time it is recharged I will be able to plug it back in.
