All business and a little fun [Posted on 2008-12-17] This is a nice mix of a solid business like design with a nod to fun with the audio/video and photo keys. The keys are nicely laid out with the left keys taking care of photo functions like zoom, rotate and bringing up your photo editor and the right keys controlling your media application. The extra functions built into the F keys are well thought out too and very flexible. Keyboard feel is great and much better than anything else I've used. The keys are solid and have a nice amount of throw.
I've had a Logitech Mx700 that I basically wore out. I like the feel of this keyboard much better. But the mouse is not quite as good. I like the larger MX700 mouse better and surprisingly I even like my small Logitech portable mouse better as well. This mouse is kind of an awkward blend between fingertip and palm control size that doesn't do either of them as well - but you can use it either way. Its not bad, but not quite as good as the great keyboard.
Another minor shortcoming is the strength of the wireless signal. I find the working distance more limited that my MX700. You won't have any problem on your desk, but I think I'd look elsewhere if you want to work this from across the room. On the other hand it is a clever design as you can easily unplug the mini receiver and transfer it quickly to your laptop.
Overall, I'm glad I got it.
Not acceptable [Posted on 2008-12-17] The keyboard lags terribley. It will barely work if you have it too close to the wireless reciever. The Mouse lags terribley. You absolutely cannot play computer games with this or you will want to break your computer. Maybe I just got a bad one though....other than that, everything else is fine.
nice keys but poor range [Posted on 2008-12-21] This is a good keyboard in terms of ease of typing, but the wireless range is lousy, only about 4-5 feet with line-of-sight. Further away than that, the behavior is erratic. It has some useful added buttons for controlling audio/video playback, zooming in and out of websites, etc...
Functions as advertised [Posted on 2008-12-26] Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 710 Laser When I purchased on 11/24/1008 cost was [...] with a promised rebate from Logitech of additional [...].
Product extremely easy to install - just plug it in and start working. Keyboard has a little too many extras which I strike by accident but can live with those inconveniences for now.
The promised rebate (Amazon furnished form) did not materialize. It appears that the company with a Phoenix address went belley-up and Logitech asked someone else to handle for them. Their automated telephone for checking rebate gave me information on TiVo I purchase from Amazon. I lowered from five stars because of the poor support where there is no "live" person to talk to - it must all be accomplished by e-mail.
If i had known of the poor support and the difficulty in obtaining the promised rebate I would have purchased a less expensive model without all the frills that I don't need anyway.
Defective space bar [Posted on 2008-12-28] The LX710 keyboard/mouse combo has an excellent 5 year warranty but it didn't last 5 weeks. 3 weeks after purchase the space bar on the keyboard stuck in the down position rendering the keyboard useless. All of the keys feel mushy and don't provide any tactical feedback to let you know they have been sufficiently pressed to engage. There is also no audio feedback (like clicking) on the keys that one would expect to find on a quality keyboard in this price range.
