Customer Reviews:

Expensive and worth every penny [Posted on 2008-12-30]
The Harmony One is practically magical. Set up is incredibly easy and, once it is set up, it's unbelievably easy to use. Press one on-screen button and you're watching TV with the fully controls of your DVR cable box at your command. Do you want to watch and then delete a saved program? The controls are there and labeled just as they were on the remote that came with your DVR. Listen to a CD? Press one button and your whole system adjusts and again gives you all the controls you need. The only challenge I have had (and this is after less than 30 min of set up) is getting some of the more esoteric functions to work. For example, I have a Denon 4308ci AV receiver which can connect to the internet to listen to digital stations. The remote hasn't quite caught up to that advanced function. Setting it up as listening to the radio means the remote gives me the option of tuning when what I need is simply to pick from the list of stations. I'll bet with a little more time, I'll figure out this kink. Bottom line: I can't imagine a better or more easy to use remote. Worth every penny!

Remote control of my choice [Posted on 2008-12-30]
An excellent product! Easy to program and simple to use. I'm very happy with the product.

Super Slick Remote Control [Posted on 2008-12-31]
So I read the reviews of this product and I was impressed. There weren't too many negative reviews that I read that would affect my decision so before I tell you what I think here's a little background on my "Why".

I have this gorgeous Samsung TV, its a LNT4671 purchased in January 2008. I have it connected to a DirecTV HR20 HDDVR. I just recently purchased a Samsung HTAST720S AVR Surrround Sound System to control a Samsung BDP2500 Blu-ray. Ok so if you're still with me I count 4 Remote controls that interact with my system. Samsung says that with its Anynet+ system you're TV remote controls all of your devices. Its really not true. The TV Remote does turn on the other devices via the Anynet+ settings but thats it. Switching between TV and DVD had become a nightmare for us and you always have to use the DirecTv remote for TV. Ok so lets get back to my review of the Logitech Harmony One Advanced Universal Remote.
Its FRIGGIN Fabulous! If there were 6 stars I give it to this device. I got it about an hour ago and I've been done programming it for at least a 1/2 hour. True to its word I now use this remote control and one touch button to control my system. I switch between the DVD and TV with a touch of a button. I touch the power off button and it powers off all of the devices it was using. How's that for slick. My girlfriend and I had an argument two nights ago about all of the remotes. It wasn't easy for me to explain to her how to use the system so if I wasn't home she almost couldn't use the DVD if it wasn't already setup. Okay so you have to plunk down almost $190.00, which is kind of nuts for a remote control, but if you're like me you've already invested some change in your system so its not out of the question, kind of.
Think about it - One remote control - for everything you have including a Stereo system if you have one. Up to 14 devices.

Not a happy camper [Posted on 2009-01-02]
Loading the software from the disk has totally frozen my MacPro. All I get is a white screen and everything is locked. Called Logitech's customer support. The first guy from Logitech told me it was my fault because I used the install disk that came with the product and it is old software. Said I should have used the Internet version. When I asked him why the instructions say to load from the disk without any mention of logging on to their site there was silence. He said he wanted to talk to someone about it and then disconnected me. I called back. This person said they would patch me through to Level 2 support. They disconnected me again.

Finally got through to Level 2 support and after explaining repeatedly that I couldn't get on to their site because my computer was locked she put me on hold and after a minute I was once again disconnected. I am know recording the conversations for possible legal action as I am certain that I am going to have a good sized repair bill from the Apple folks as they rebuild my system. I have now been on hold for Level 2 support for 37 minutes and decided to type this on my wife's computer as I waited.

Finally got someone after 40+ minutes. Told me that it was a Mac problem and that it must be a coincidence that my computer crapped out when rebooting as part of their install routine. Don't know about the product because my computer is being trucked into the Mac shop to get fixed but they have are an awful company to deal with.

the fine folks at Logitech have disconnected me

Could be better [Posted on 2009-01-02]
I have used a B&W touch-screen Phillips Pronto remote for years, and it was getting antiquated, so I thought I'd "upgrade" to this top-end Logitech remote. While this is a beautifully sculpted remote with logically laid out controls and good touch screen, I was disappointed to find it did not use discrete codes to turn equipment on and off.

What this means is if you adjust ANYTHING manually (directly on the components), the remote no longer knows where it is. Practically every electronic component has discrete on and off codes to allow multi-function remotes to know that they're turning on or off a component absolutely. Unfortunately, this remote doesn't use them, but instead uses the toggle technique. Once it loses track, you must either spend time going through a help questionnaire on the remote to get everything discombobulated, or press OFF on the remote, manually turn everything off all the gear that toggled back on, and then start over. BIG price tag, BIGGER hassle, BIGGEST disappointment for such an otherwise nice piece of gear.

Logitech could easily solve this by using discrete IR codes, and since everything is downloaded from their web site during configuration, I imagine they could do so retroactively to all owners. Unfortunately, they don't even provided a means to do so if you know what discrete IR codes are and are willing to enter them yourself. I'm going to have to exile this remote to the bedroom and get a better one for the home theater. :( Overall, I think this remote is highly overpriced for its capabilities.
