Is this the same as the MACally Syncbox? [Posted on 2004-04-15] Since there's no data on Amazon what this product does, here's a link to what may be the product data... http://www.macally.com/new/new_syncbox.html
Simply Fails To Do The Job [Posted on 2004-11-24] Ordered this based on recommendation by someone in the Iriver Forum for transferring pictures from a digital camera to a portable hard drive mp3 device. I own the Nikon 4500 and an Iriver H340 and when I travel I want to download pictures from the SD card in the camera to the hard drive, then reuse the SD picture storage card - as opposed to carrying a bunch of the storage cards. In Oct. 2004 I confidently and foolishly purchased from Amazon this Syncbox. The Forum had stated the device as made by Macally and before purchase I phoned Macally in California and made inquiries. The company was in process of upgrading the device to one with a readable screen and had a picture of the future device on their webside (macally dot com). I informed the tech staff person about my needs and equipment and was given the go ahead. Bought this device here, got it, read the manual, connected the Syncbox between the camera and hard drive as directed, and lo! the Syncbox just did not function as expected. My camera contained numerous photos and the Syncbox just did not transfer the pictures. I finally got it to transfer folders from the camera to my HDD, however only the folder names transferred. Meaning the folders had nothing in them! leaving the pics on the other side. What a waste of my time, cash and efforts. I promptly printed AMAZON's RETURN LABEL - and lo! again - Amazon send email of receipt of the device and CHARGED ME $13 (yes thirteen dollars) in postage. At the Post Office I could have returned the device for less than three dollars. Talk about double jeopardy. Burned twice. Oh well. I can take my own advice in the future. Beware items without excellent reviews and beware Amazon's return labels. Happy holidays!
It works [Posted on 2005-07-18] I have purchased syncbox despite bad reviews on amazon. If it doesn' work, it can be returned anyway. I gave it a test and it works! If you need to copy all your memory card to small external usb hard drive (most common task - when you travel and make pictures, but your PC is not with you), it will create folder sync001 with all pictures in it on your hd, next time it creates folder sync002 and so on. All you need to have is usb hd, and usb card reader. This is unique device and it is cheap! Just make it white to match ipod, and sell it for $300
Great device [Posted on 2006-01-05] I bought this because I dislike lugging a laptop around just to deal with photo viewing, storage and simple on-the-road edits. I replaced the laptop with a Palm TX and simply transfer files from the cameras to spare SD cards then, edit/delete on the Palm (Resco Photo Viewer). We travel a lot and have used the Syncbox for about 6 gig worth of transfers so far.
I only use flash card readers at both ends as I have no patience with the camera industry's lack of adherence to standards. The product works as advertised.
Just the item I was looking for. AMAZING [Posted on 2007-09-27] This is the perfect item for when you are out and around and need to transfer files from one medium to another and don't have access to a computer. It's like a tiny little computer for transferring files. Especially great if you have a digital camera, you can move the files over to usb pen drive or flash card or external hard drive. Awesome!
