A vault [Posted on 2007-08-28] I bought this case to protect my new Canon XT and acessories and my new Canon S5IS. The 2 cameras, the 18-200 Tamron lens, the BG3 battery grip for the XT, the Canon 220EX and 430EX Speedlight external flashes, batteries and chargers all fit and I really think I could throw it off the roof without even scratching it. Definitely protects my gear. And it's completely waterproof too.
If it's something you value, put it in a Pelican. It will be safe.
Soft core, hard shell. [Posted on 2007-12-24] I have always trusted Pelican when it comes to cases for expensive and fragile items. I purchased this specific model for the Canon XH A1 1.67MP 3CCD High-Definition Camcorder with 20x Optical Zoom. It fits perfectly (get this model, the 1500 is too thin). Be cautious and plan well for the way you pluck the foam because mistakes cost time and money!
Great Case! [Posted on 2008-01-15] Pelican makes great cases. It is tough as nails and waterproof. Keeps my Canon XH A1 and accessories safe. The pick-and-pluck foam is easy to handle. Handle is nice and big.
My only complaint is that its heavy. But, that is the price one must pay for the provided protection.
2nd Best Not Good Enough? Use a Pelican Case [Posted on 2008-05-08] Huge box, I use it for my DVX100B and all related film equipment. I could drop this thing from an overpass or use it for hand to hand combat and it would protect the cargo perfectly. Solid handle design will never break.
Pick and pluck foam is FANTASTIC! It's the next best thing to having an expensive custom cut. Be sure to use silk fabric between the foam and your expensive equipment, as the foam has tendency to flake off in very small pieces. Note: this is not a design flaw but the nature and density of the foam itself. Water resistant a plus, solid rubber seal compressed with solid case latches, however, the wife looked at me funny when I went to give the case a bath... could I blame her?
Pelicans seem to be worth the extra 30 bucks and (hey look) made in the USA so the polymers won't degrade, weaken and crack after two years. Fine job - I will be getting more for my permanent storage items I no longer wish to keep in wobbly Tupperware muy Grande.
A Great Case [Posted on 2008-08-01] This is my third Pelican 1550 case and the second with the automatic pressure relief feature. I remember coming down 4000' in elevation on one trip and having to struggle to get the vacuum to release. Not so with the new models. The 1/2" pluck-foam is great. Oh, multiple cases nest good, too. A satisfied customer.
