Impressive! [Posted on 2007-12-20] I bought this lens on the recommendation of someone else (thanks Joz) to use on my new Sanyo Xacti HD700 (still and HD video pocket cam). I'd already rigged a more expensive, much larger and heavier 0.5x lens to be used with it using tape and elastic but dropped and broke the thing in the process. Prior to breaking it I liked the lens.
To my surprise the Phoenix 0.45x stuck to my camera without using the ring. I immediately took the camera out with the lens to do some testing. I shot with and without the lens to compare the results. Wow, it changed my 38mm semi-wide end to a 17mm wide end and it's quite sharp. It performed much better than the other lens and is 1/5th the size. Drops in my shirt pocket, its new home.
I've shot stills and HD video with this lens and am quite pleased and impressed. Search vimeo dot com for "Testing Phoenix 0.45x magnetic lens - Sanyo Xacti HD700" to see the samples. Quite a few people have bought this lens after seeing the results.
There's two sizes so measure before ordering:
Large - Fits cameras with 17-30mm (11/16" - 13/16") diameter of the front lens.
Small - Fits cameras with 10-16mm (3/8" - 10/16") diameter of the front lens.
Well worth the investment. I may get a spare in case I break or lose this one, definitely don't want to be without one. I'm also going to look at the Phoenix 1.5x magnetic version after using this one, hope it's as nice.
Great lens option for point and shoot camera [Posted on 2008-01-07] I love this thing. I get good shots with it and it stays put on my camera. I was so scared the magnetic feature wouldn't be strong enough but it works great.
