The 8MP does reveal extra detail, especially in the 16x20 format and was a real value as ordered through Amazon. However, to take advantage of the more powerful memory and resolution, the buyer will almost certain want to buy a 1G x-SD card ($50-$70)and a battery charger (from Olympus or from Radio Shack about $70) and probably an extra rechargable battery ($20 from Radio Shack) so you can swap batteries as needed. Still, these investments are modest in terms of what you get in terms of digital power.

This camera isn't one that I would recommend for those who are novices to digital photography. As my husband has reminded me many times, he hates that it doesn't "just work" at the click of a button. You have to work harder to get pristine results, but the results are well worth it. It is kind of limited in how many accessories you can buy for it... I have the wide angle and telephoto lenses... but this is point and shoot, after all, not a DSLR! Many times it is best to set your "My Settings" presets to the settings you use the most (shutter speed, aperture, lighting settings, etc...)It can be a really picky camera, but with a little patience and a desire to learn how to use it, this camera can be your best friend (it's my best friend!)
