No Real Improvements, More Downsides [Posted on 2008-11-10] Roxio 2009 should be improving, only it's not. This year, in addition to the same activation woes that have plagued other editions, the interface remains completely boring and overly difficult. Still, on the plus side, the individual aps that make up this suite seem to have been tweaked a bit. Still, the real bummer is a kick in the teeth to previous Roxio owners. No update pricing.
Although Nero is nothing to write home about, it remains a better deal, with a superior interface and less activation woes. Nero's also much easier to write DVD files to, especially when you want to add data.
Roxio won't start seriously getting their product right until people start buying other products. And while aps seem to work okay, they are slow switching between when using the main interface. Oh, and writing to Blu-Ray disks requires an add-on. If you need to write to BR, go ahead and spring for Roxio and get the add-on. But in my opinion, it ought to be free. If you don't need to write to BR, go with Nero.
Good Product [Posted on 2008-11-11] Item came quickly and was as advertised. After reading other reviews, I decided to not take a chance and uninstalled my older version of Roxio and then installed this version. Absolutely no problems and works excellent.
Essential Programs Make it Great, Some options are just good enough [Posted on 2008-11-13] Essentials to me in a media program are disk burning, media file conversion, media file editing. With these programs roxio passes with flying colors. Each of them are easy to follow and have more than average capability. I'm still reading about the blu-ray & HD war and that it isn't over. Microsoft may start making HD movies availble through their XBox so the format is still alive. I don't want to commit yet either way so it's prudent of roxio to offer both formats in a round about way. It will burn HD video onto run of the mill dvds.
Extras that work include the audio capture for internet streaming, disk catalog creation, audio book chapter and bookmarks creation for iPod.
Extras that are nice but not essential include beat mixing, which melds songs together by creating a unique beat, internet storage for media files. It is a unique mix of programs but the core programs remain some of the best on that I've used.
Find another software!!! [Posted on 2008-11-14] I would highly recommend that anyone purchase this type software from anyone BUT Roxio!!! Their support is totally non-existant ($2.00 per minute over the telephone is the only way to talk to a "live person").
I had problems with a previous version of the software (Easy Media Creator 8). When trying to work with them, they finally told me I had to upgrade to a current software. I finally paid over $100.00 to do that (Easy Media Creator 9). I have not been able to install the software on my computer and get no support from Roxio. Now, they tell me that I should purchase the latest software (Creator 2009) and it will work.
Stay away from this company at all costs!!!
Creator 2009 - a HIT! [Posted on 2008-11-14] Creator 2009 met my expectations in creating both audio and video projects. The user interface has improved and simplified the links to a suite of numerous software applications.
Roxio now captures, creates, and copies high definition video onto low cost DVD media, as well as Blu-Ray media. It has finally fixed annoying software conflicts with my homebrew collection of new PC and old CD/DVD disk drives.
Video editing is inherently complex. Creator uses 3 applications. "CineMagic" provides fast and simple movie creation. "VideoWave" allows advanced video editing. "MyDVD" creates DVDs with optional menu.
Video online sharing is linked to [...]. I was disappointed that I was not able to increase the resolution of the movie file upload to take advantage of a new YouTube feature to display higher quality videos.
While rendering high definition files, I monitored the software performance ( ) and was pleased that Creator 2009 was able to use nearly 100% capacity of my dual core processors. Importantly, the software successfully juggled software process priorities so that keyboard, display, and mouse did NOT become sluggish.
Photo sharing is provided by Roxio "OnLine". After creating a free login, I uploaded photo files, and then was offered a choice of 5 songs. I was lucky that one of the 5 songs was ideal to set the mood for my photo show. (Roxio offers a premium $service, with a choice of 100s of songs.) I seamlessly used the on-line service to sort my photos, and apply special effects, and titles. I was very pleased with the resulting photo show, which I privately shared with multiple relatives.
For my audio and video needs, Creator 2009 is a "must have" media suite.
