The Sigma 28-200mm zoom macro lens for Nikon Digital SLRs [Posted on 2006-06-30] The Sigma 28-200mm zoom macro is an excellent lens for the typical portrait or landscape photo. I was a bit disappointed in the macro feature for a couple of reasons. While I realize that no telephoto lens can really take "macro" images, I was used to the 28-135mm Sigma macro that I have for my SLR film camera. A friend does have a 28-135mm for his Nikon digital SLR, so I was hoping to get one. That lens has a macro switch and a image ratio of 1:2. Unfortunately, Sigma no longer makes the 28-135mm lens, at least not for digital cameras. So I selected the 28-200mm macro with an image ratio of 1:3.8 and no macro switch. With my old 28-135, I could use one lens for just about all my photos; I will not be able to do that with the 28-200. Even with these exceptions, however, I do find the 28-200 lens to have very good optics and flexibility.
