Customer Reviews:

Great Camera [Posted on 2007-03-11]
I have had this camera for well over a year. It has been flawless. It takes great photos and can be set to full manual when needed. The zoom is awesome, used in Africa to take some great animal and people photos. I am now waiting for the H9 to come out, I am going to be in line for it!

Sony Cybershot DSCH1 5.1MP Digital--Bravo! [Posted on 2007-05-25]
This is the best camera I've owned, a clear step-up from my Sony DSC P93A.The big LCD viewing area captures what a shot will like in print. The 12X zoom is
phenomenal for close-up shots. No more blurred shots with the "Steady Shot"; you will need to adjust for low light shots, but there is a setting for those instances where the light is weak.
Although I bought this refurbished, it was in perfect condition and had all the accessories of a brand new camera.
I guess you'd call me a somewhat experienced amateur; this camera will allow me to become more a accomplished amateur with a bit of help from Sony (on-line site)and certainly with this camera.
As always, Amazon delivers, even though this was not Amazon itself, but one of its vetted vendors.

Multiple problems with this camera [Posted on 2007-07-01]
I found this camera to be disappointing. After only several months of use, it stopped working very well. It would never be in focus if zoomed in all the way (although not using a tripod). It also would not deliver an in focus picture at any level of zoom if it wasn't a very bright sunny day, which is of course not optimal lighting conditions. The "hand" icon indicating the camera was unsteady would go off every single time the camera was used. We tried to reset the camera, but this continued. I don't know if something was wrong with the image stabilization, but it seemed as though only 1 out of ten shots would ever be in focus, no matter what the conditions. We ended up selling the camera and getting a new one. I have had luck in the past with two different models of sony digital cameras, but this one never seemed to work properly.

straight to heaven [Posted on 2007-12-15]
Superior quality, and the colors are absolutely superb. If this camera ever breaks or goes missing, I'll buy it all over again. I have several other digital cameras, two that were more expensive, and they don't come even close for performance.

It's a NICE Camera... [Posted on 2008-02-03]
... that has been a workhorse for work and play. It's now an older model, but some things hold so this review is meant to help you with the later versions, as well. The Carl Zeiss Lens is fantastic and I will let a photo posted as "Boogaloo Review" help you to judge.

It's biggest mission was a horseback vacation in Arizona. It worked fantastic on the back of a horse and recently served up a bonus. A recent fire destroyed the 'cook shack' building and some precious photos to the ranch owner she thought were gone forever. Ah, but I had taken photos of those photos with this Sony (I'll post one of those, too). With some tight cropping, I was able to reproduce every single one, virtually good as new, regretting a little bit of flash reflection that I did not think would matter at the time. Heck, I might be going on vacation for FREE next year!! Saddle up and let 'em buck, baby.

By today's standards, the image stabilization is weak at long zooms and distant long zoom shots are not the best. But, close full zoom shots are fantastic, so it's a great snapshot camera. Also, I prefer to use Lithium AA batteries because, with only two, it eats up alkalines fast. For me, rechargeable's are not serviceable.

The movie mode is decent and the 5mp resolution is suitable for up to letter size prints. If you find this model used for around $100, it's a great buy. Today's newer models are faster and better, but this was a GREAT camera when it came out. Look at my photo posts and see for yourself.
